Florida tourism on pace for another record year

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The march to another record Florida tourism year kept on going with the state welcoming the highest number of visitors of any six months in the state’s history this year.

Some 54.1 million visitors swarmed Florida, according to Visit Florida.

“Our growing tourism industry employs over 1.2 million Floridians and is helping us meet our goal of becoming the best place in the world for jobs,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement. “We are excited to mark the first half of 2015 with our biggest second quarter ever, and we look forward to exceeding our goal of 100 million visitors to Florida this year.”

Nearly 2.7 million visitors came from overseas while 1.2 million Canadians sought a warmer clime in the second quarter alone.

Nearly 22 million Americans visited the Sunshine State during that time which is nearly a seven percent increase over the previous year.
